Vaayu Kula

A resort and event space in Mandrem beach, Vaayu Kula stems from the Sanskrit word ‘kula’ which means ‘community’ or people who come together with intention. As part of their annual New Year’s gathering, they wanted to incorporate this theme and the idea of gathering with one's tribe.

The central concept of this project is inspired by the tribal communities of North East India. Much of the establishments team comprises of people from this region, and centering their culture was an opportunity to make the celebration more meaningful, and highlighting the art and crafts native to these tribes.

The Brief

Hao- Laa, or The People's Song refers to a folk songs of the Tangkhul Naga tribe native to Nagaland and parts of Manipur.

The motif of the Bison, often used in craft, textile and architecture in Nagaland serves as the central motif. Along with these, other textile patterns and colours typically used in this region inform the colour palette across the posters, wayfinding and other creatives for the event.
